10 Hints to Keep your Health at Christmas

  1. Earn your rewards.  If you have a Christmas Party to go to in the evening double your exercise that day.  Find some friends to do some extra workouts with.  Remember your body reflects a balance between intake and what your burn off.
  2. Drink heaps of water and an extra glass of water for every alcoholic beverage you consume. If you are intending to drink alcohol. Take some Flordis Legalon before you go out to protect your liver.
  3. Have a Nuzest Lean Clean Protein drink for breakfast blended with water and fruit for a high energy day. For extra nutrients add Nuzest Good Green Food.
  4. The next morning if you have a headache drink more water, take it quietly for a day.  Vitamin B and Magnesium will help you recover. Try Blooms Bounce Energy Boost.
  5. Don't stress about making it to every function.  Follow the one event per day rule.  This will make you less frazzled and then you can have more fun.
  6. If you get a stomach ache, it is your bodies way of telling you to slow down and watch what you
are eating.  Add some Inner Health probiotics & Ibergast to settle your stomach.
  7. Get a good night's sleep.  If you are out partying late one night have an early night the next so that you don't get over tired and make poor decisions.
  8. Choose your drinks carefully.  Some alcoholic beverages are better than others so choose the purest, with less sugar, colours & preservatives. The best drinks of the season include good quality champagne and sparkling wine, rose made with sangiovese or grenach grapes, good quality red and white wine & vodka and gin mixed with soda.
  9. Good Choices.  There may be many temptations but choose wisely. Go ahead indulge in what you might not ordinarily eat but instead of three potatoes have one, avoid the turkey skin, have a tablespoon of gravy rather than a pool of it, and go easy on cream and cheese.
  10. Have fun.  I suggest that you go forth and have as much fun as you can with out getting injured, drinking too much and eating excessively.

Link Between Gut Inflamation and Depression

The level of inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract has a bidirectional impact on behavior. Researchers have found that depression can influence the vulnerability of the gut to inflammation; and in turn, this inflammation may influence depression and anxiety.1

I can second this, from my clinic results, how often does a client finish the Clean Within Program and find that their moods have improved to a huge degree.

Monkey Mind at night? Try putting yourself into a Trance

Do you have a monkey mind where there is a lot of internal chatter?

You can help this by putting yourself into a trance. Here are 8 steps to try tonight to get a good night's sleep.

  1. You can use your usual script, but the key....slow it right down.....right down.
  2. Imagine you are talking to someone that speaks a different language to the one that you are using. They can't understand what you are saying. So deliver your words in such a way that your tone, pace and inflections are slow, deliberate and clear.
  3. Throw in some pause statements such as 'that's right', 'I see', 'I understand', this gives you time to breathe, reflect and structure your response
  4. Throw in some ambitious words - this makes you slow down as you think of alternative words or ways of phrasing something
  5. Imagine yourself walking down a huge stair case one step at a time while delivering these words
  6. Create a picture in your head of what you want and only what you want
  7. If your head has any other sounds in it, let them help you to relax deeper.
  8. Go with the flow, but control the speed of the flow....breathe :-
Not asleep yet....maybe it's time to sit down Rosemary Manners.  She can explore nutrition, lifestyle and mindset to see what's contributing to your monkey brain.

Let's Help Sydney Youth this Christmas

Being a mother of two teenager boys.  I am very grateful for the life that they have.  So grateful that this Christmas I plan to run a program in conjunction with Barnardos Australia to give  Christmas presents to less fortunate youth in Sydney.

This is a comment about Barnardos;
“They deal with things that most people who go to work every day don’t have to, particularly seeing some real pain for young people in our community. However, the fantastic part about their work is the successes, and the turning around of young people’s lives. In many cases I would say they are saving young people’s lives."

Barnardos have opened a new Canterbury Office;
The four programs running out of the Sydney Youth Services Canterbury office are:
  • Reconnect – the Reconnect program is an early intervention program for youth (12-18years old) and their families who live in the Marrickville and Canterbury local government areas who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The program is aimed at ‘reconnecting’ teenagers to their families where possible. It is funded by FaHCSIA.
  • Streetwork - the Streetwork program is a youth support and drug and alcohol prevention program for young people in the Canterbury / Marrickville local government areas. It has an outreach focus where contact is primarily achieved through street work in public places such as railway stations, shopping centres and parks. It is funded by the NSW Department of Health.
  • EIPP – the Early Intervention and Placement Prevention Program (EIPP) is an information and referral program for ‘at risk’ young people (aged 12-18years) and their families who live in the Canterbury and Marrickville Local Government Areas. It is funded by the NSW Department of Community Services.
  • Young People Connected Program - this program is funded by the Vodafone Foundation. It aims to increase connectedness between at risk young people and support services, family and their community. This is achieved by allocating new handsets and a freecall number to clients in Barnardos programs.
For 15 years at Cranes Pharmacy we have supported Barnardos Australia by selling Christmas Cards.  I understand that many of you do not send paper Christmas Cards any more so this gives us all a chance to continue our Traditional Support.

  • Buy a Barnardos Youth Gift Certificates.  $10.00 or $20.00 each and we'll ensure that it gets to teenagers in Sydney that do not quite live like us.

Couch Surfing in Sydney? Will Santa Know where to look?

Read below.  I'm inspired to do what we can at Cranes Pharmacy to help this Christmas.

Focus on the hidden homeless Tuesday 06 August 2013
More and more young Australians are calling a couch at a mates house home as the frequency of homelessness in across the country continues to grow. The plight of Australia’s homeless will be highlighted this week during Homeless Person’ Week, coordinated by Homelessness Australia. This year’s theme is “The hidden homeless”.
Barnardos Australia works closely with young people in New South Wales to help reduce the risk of them becoming homeless due to an often complex set of personal circumstances. These can include drug and alcohol issues, cross culture conflict and family breakdown.
According to Homelessness Australia, more than 105,000 people in Australia experience homelessness on any given night, and just six per cent of them are sleeping rough. Young people staying temporarily with friends or families, or women and children bunking down with relatives, don’t always identify themselves as homeless.
A Barnardos Australia Program Manager agrees ‘couch surfing’ is increasingly common. “More and more young people are ‘couch surfing’ as a way of life. Kids feel they can’t go home due to volatile relationships and family breakdown. We are actually finding truancy is the first indicator of homelessness as these kids are missing school because they don’t have the resources necessary for school. They can then get involved in drugs and other potentially dangerous behaviour. We want to break the cycle of homelessness that often runs in families.” Through the early intervention “Reconnect” program Barnardos Australia also offers practical and personal support and assistance for youth (12 – 18 years old) and their families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The Reconnect program in Canterbury and Marrickville local government areas is aimed at reconnecting teenagers to their families where possible, by helping to work out relationship breakdowns. Barnardos workers aim to teach young people resilience to cope in difficult situations and how to live together in a family when times are hard. If moving home is not an option Barnardos helps the young person find stable living arrangements while staying connected to their families.
There are currently 105,237 people in Australia who are homeless, 27% of which are under the age of 18.* Barnardos Australia relies on your support to continue this vital work.

Support Teenagers in need by coming into Cranes or Cremorne Pharmacy and buy a gift voucher to give them for Christmas.

Find Yourself Heavy, Sluggish or Constipated? Would you like 3 Suggestions...

Find yourself heavy, sluggish or constipated?

Try these suggestions:

Suggestion one
Increase your input of low-GI vegetables — lettuce, celery, cucumber, tomato, spinach, silver beet, cabbage, bok choy, onion, zucchini, avocado, sprouts, snow peas, green beans, capsicum, broccoli and cauliflower. Eat up to six cups per day. This will give you the fibre and the vitamins and minerals to get things moving. Drink loads of water - up to 2 litres a day.

Suggestion two
I have a secret recipe give this a try

Constipation buster smoothie

Ingredients:
3 tsp flaxseeds soaked overnight in ¼ cup boiling water
5 prunes, de-seeded
½ cup filtered water
½ frozen banana sliced
½ cup low fat natural yoghurt
Method: process all ingredients together, including flaxseed soaking water. Serve immediately

Suggestion three
If the above methods don't help try Motion Potion.  A teaspoonful each day makes a big difference.

It's worth knowing - if you're not having a well formed stool twice a day, all these suggestions will help get things going and keep things moving!

How to Look Ten Years Younger Starting From The Inside Out

10 years younger - from the inside out!

Want to look 10 years younger and keep it that way?

What if you could reduce your biological age?

Well now you can, by reducing your biomarkers - the biological 'markers' of aging. The Young Within Program is all about just that!

What would you choose?
Your chronological age may be 45, but you can have the body of a 35 year old or a 55 year old...

How does the program work:
We'll move through each of these topics and you'll have the opportunity to adjust your choices accordingly. We'll record all your ideas so you have all the information you need at your finger tips. And the best part is...each choice you make will start turning back the aging process from the inside out.

This program is in 2 parts
Part one - 5 steps to decrease your body biomarkers

  1. Choose a balanced diet
  2. Learn about the food signatures
  3. Know about what Hara Hachi Bu means to you
  4. Focus on the Essentials: sunshine, water & air
  5. Best of all - move your body
Part two - 5 steps to decrease your mind biomarkers

  1. Create mindfulness
  2. Bind to your tribe
  3. Belong to a group
  4. Form positive connections
  5. Embrace spirituality
You can turn back the clock, feel good and look great just from reaching for the right foods, a few lifestyle changes and looking into your mindset.  Let me show you how with the Young Within Program.

Moods and Foods

Reach for the right foods - feel great!

Foggy brain?
Help to find your way through the fog by dumping sugar from your diet.  Replace it with loads of green things - salads and vegetables e.g. spinach, broccoli, watercress, celery.

Find yourself tired?
It's going to help you to balance out your blood sugars.  Increase the protein you are eating, avoid refined carbohydrates, switch to whole grains and low GI fruit and vegetables. e.g. sweet potato, raw carrots, apples, pears or kiwi fruit

Feeling down?
Look for foods with lots of B vitamins. B vitamins are your 'get up and go' vitamin that nourishes the nervous system. Look for lean meat, seafood, broccoli, spinach & citrus fruits. Check that you are not drinking any soft drinks or cordials and up the filtered water.

One of those stressy weeks?
Grab the walnuts.  Only 9 walnuts or a teaspoon of walnut oil is enough to make a difference.  It could help your body handle stress better.  Other foods to munch on a busy week are flaxseeds, other nuts and cold pressed oils.e.g. olive or sunflower.

Guys...how many times do you wee during the night?

There is hope that you could get a whole nights sleep or at least less interruptions.  There is a herb called Pygeum Africanum that is not well known outside the herbal world.   When the clinical studies where done on this herb there was a moderately large improvement in urologic symptoms compared to placebo.  Nocturia was decreased by 19%, residual urine volume reduced by 24%, while peak urine flow increased by 23%. All of these are good things.
The conclusion from the studies is that overall this herb may improve the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) by modulating bladder contractility, reducing inflammation, inhibiting fibroblast production, decreasing leukotriene production and improving secretory activity of prostate epithelium.
Bioceuticals have cleverly combined Pygeum with Rye Grass and Beta-sitosterols in their new Prostacare tablet.  This is designed to support prostate health and hopefully help you guys have a good nights sleep.

Confidence in Health

Do you know the right decision to make but continuously end up doing the opposite?
Do you run out of time for health?
Do you feel silly even starting on a health plan?
Is this to do with confidence? Confidence with yourself .
Here is a simple trick you can do anywhere to build confidence in your self and your health decisions.

Imagine that you are really tall. And I mean really tall, at least 7 metres tall.  Then visualise yourself being made of solid diamond.  Inhale a nice deep breath and fell your chest expand.  If you are increasing your confidence to deal with indecision over a health event that was bothering you, then imagine how insignificant it is compared to your strength and power. You could swat it away like a fly if you wanted to. The tiny squeaky voice can barely reach your ears and your booming confidence in your health blows it away like a tornado.
Now imagine popping a bright red cape over your shoulders and feel it dragging along the floor behind you.  Take confident strides like a roman emperor and imagine a fanfare of trumpets as you announce your new health strategy.

You can use this strategy anywhere to switch on your confidence when ever you need it and it instantly transforms your demeanor .  Use it to support your health decisions.

Did you know 50% of people revert back to old habits within 3 weeks of finishing a diet? The key to sustainability is learning about how to change your own mindset forever. Imagine making good choices all the time rather than being on a diet or off a diet. To find out more click below

Are your lungs behaving poorly? Sinusitis?

For centuries, Eastern Europeans have sat in natural salt caves to help relieve respiratory, circulatory and skin ailments and stress.

Salt Therapy, like that provided at Salt Caves, is a form of inhalation therapy that is used to provide a natural
allergy treatment to clear the airways of mucus build up and reduce triggered by allergies to dust, pollen or pollution. The inhaled microscopic salt aerosol draws the mucus and fluid build up out of the nasal passage, reducing the swelling and pain. The minerals within salt, namely magnesium and potassium and known to help with inflammation and assist with breaking down mucus build up. Salt therapy will also assist in protecting you against further sinus infections as it kills harmful bacteria in the airways and boosts your immune system.

Now instead of heading off to Europe to find a salt cave you can do it in your own home with a Salt Air Pod.  This is an Ultrasonic Salinizer. Secret Squirrel ™ Salt Air Pod is an ultrasonic particle dispenser that uses ultrasonic frequency vibration technology to transform a saline solution into a salt aerosol for the indoor air. The device is not a humidifier, as it is placing an insignificant amount of humidity into your room. It is a unique product! Secret Squirrel™ Salt Air Pod comes with an instruction manual and a supply of pharmaceutical grade natural Himalayan rock salt for the saline solution. Easy to use - just plug in 100% natural and completely safe 12 month Warranty - complies with all Australian standards.

18 year old with a Flair up of Eczema

What would I do?
I would advise a 4 prong approach.  Let's consider nutrition, mindset, supplements
and topical applications.
Nutrition.  I like to take out sugar, dairy, wheat and any junk foods.  This may be a big ask for a teenager but it does go a long way with getting the inflammation under control.  Replace with loads of vegetables, some fruit and a good sized protein at each meal. Lots of essential fatty acids help too.  This includes, fish, nuts, olive oil and eggs.  Add a tablespoon flaxseed per day.  The next step after this is to consider allergy testing.
Mindset. Nobody said being a teenager is easy and there are a lot of things that create stress.  This needs to be balanced with a regular d-stress program.  A half an hour a day doing something relaxing (not TV or screens).  Try walking, reading, meditating or listening to music.
Supplements. Flair ups with eczema have a lot to do with what is happening in the gut walls so I'd always start with a good probiotic.  Inner Health have a product called Eczema Relief which I recommend.  Bioceuticals Ultra Clean Fish oil capsules will help reduce the inflammation.
Topical.  Stop all skin cleansers, soaps and any other skin applications.  Have not too hot showers.  Use MooGOO wash followed by MooGoo eczema cream.  On the really bad bits use cortisone creams for a few days to get it under control then go back to MooGoo.  If you cannot find MooGoo, my second favorite is Trixera in the french Avene range.

Improving Mental Performance in kids with ADHD

Phosphatidylserine (PS) has been shown to significantly improve Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) symptoms, short term memory and cognitive function in young children suffering from ADHD.  This is the conclusion of a 2013 clinical trial.
In the study, 36 children aged 4 to 14 with diagnosed ADHD completed the randomized, double bind, placebo controlled clinical trial.  Children were supplemented with 200mg PS or placebo each day for two months.  ADHD symptoms were the primary outcome measure of the trial.  No significant changes were found in the placebo group but those recieving PS showed an impressive 37% decrease in their ADHD score.  Children in the PS group showed improved classroom behaviour and social skills.
It sure makes sense to combine this treatment with a comprehensive treatment plan for improving mental performance and quality of life for kids with ADHD.  I remember being told at a seminar if we spend time ensuring the kids are healthy and balanced we'll run out of adult customers.  I wonder if that is true? If you have any questions ask Rosemary Manners.

Autoimmune Disease and Microbes.

When we say WE we really mean WE.  Us and our microbes. Recent genetic screening studies have astounded us by identifying that only around 10% of cells in our body are actually human.  The rest of these cells make up the human microbione; that is the sum of bacteria, fungi and parasites living on us and inside us.
We have co-evolved with microbes and we are dependent on their presence to regulate our immune system, protect our skin, digest our food, produce nutrients and to help in the metabolism of toxins. So we do need the microbes however it causes havoc when they get out of balance or in the wrong place.
Science has taken a turn and research is looking into the connection between your microbial load and autoimmune diseases.  The results are extremely interesting.  It has been demonstrated by both research studies and clinicians in the field that it is possible to generate improvement in autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and sarcoidosis using multiple antibiotic therapy.  As to be expected, such aggressive treatment results in a high level of side effects.  But it gives as a great clue.
In the natural world we can use a combination of Berberine, which inhibits the protein and DNA synthesis within microbes, and essential oils of oregano, clove and thyme to attack the cell walls of bacteria.  There are also the mushrooms for viral infections.  Cordyceps, Coriolus and Reishi have been widely studied and proven to help in the resolution of chronic or reoccurring viral infections.  In our clinic these and a few other supplements aimed at addressing infection have shown dramatic improvements in autoimmune conditions.
Another tactic is to completely reset your micobione with my Clean Within Program.  This Integrated Detoxification Program is a first point of call for those in whom chronic infection is based in the gut.  It addresses bacterial overgrowth while also dealing with consequences and associated conditions, such as leaky gut, digestive incompetency, poor detoxification and hepatic dysfunction.
To keep up with these new incites and more talk to Rosemary Manners.

Do You Push Through Life or Travel with Ease

Do you have a tendency to push up against life, establishing new roads with a heavy steadiness? Or maybe you give up easily, choose the path of ease or the line of least resistance ? These concepts are known in Yoga as Sthira and Sukha. Steadiness vs Ease.  The idea is to balance these two tendencies.  Choose the happy balance in the middle.
Sometimes we tend to get too close to one or the other.  In yoga terms this is called Dukha.  Dukha translates as a restricted place and is believed to be behind all suffering.  Where are you on this scale?  Are you more Sthira or Sukha?

Five Ways to improve your  Balance between Sthira and Sukha include:

  1. Practice  this concept on your yoga mat at classes at www.adoreyoga.com.au
  2. Investigate your eating pattern and food choices with leading nutritionalist Rosemary Manners
  3. Check out Happiness Within Program at www.rosemarymanners.com.au
  4. Consider the Adore Yoga Daintree Yoga Retreat in September
  5. Incorporate  Mindfulness into your day every day

Have You Had a Cold for Too Long?

I grew up with the understanding that a cold lasted 3 days.  On the fourth day it should be just mild symtoms and after a week you were symptom free. Why is it that I see many clients with moderate symptoms after a week? Not sick enough to stay in bed but definitely not feeling fully recovered.

On average adults have between 2 to 4 colds per year. If your cold is lasting weeks rather than days that is a lot of time wasted not feeling great and not performing at your best. There are many ways you can get on top of your cold  and flu symptoms & recover faster.

One of my favourite products is Ethical Nutrients Immune Defence which contains a clinically studied 6g dose of Andrographis in each dose.  Andrographis reduces the duration and severity of your cold and flu. Immune Defence helps relieve your cold symptoms as well as supporting your immune system. This means you not only recover more quickly but you are far less likely to catch another cold!! Immune Defence helps you stay well during cold and flu season.

Clinical studies have also shown that high dose Vitamin C  also helps reduce the severity and duration of cold and flu symptoms. At Cranes we have some great tasting, readily absorbed Vitamin C products. Try  Bioceuticals Ultra Potent-C Effervescent High Dose Vitamin C powder - it tastes so great even the kids will be asking for more!

Another clinically proven treatment for cold and flu symptoms is - believe it or not - chicken soup! Try Rosemary's delicious Immune Booster Soup recipe containing chicken & shiitake mushrooms - yummy!! And while you are in the kitchen, try mixing up some of Rosemary's Flu-Fighter Tea. Made with warming ginger, honey, lemon, garlic and cinnamon, you will feel your symptoms improve with each sip.

So this winter, tackle your cold symptoms with our proven remedies and feel better within days not weeks!

Let Not Your Heart be Troubled

Sitting in a funeral yesterday listening to the minister, this was the line that stood out to me.  How many people miss out on happiness because they fill themselves with all their troubles.  And don't not think that this does not effect disease in the body.  Want to talk about the link emotions have on your disease state.  Book a Naturopathy appointment today on 9969 4700  Rosemary Manners

Tumeric - the new "wonderdrug" for pain

Did you know up to 68% of people experience pain on a regular basis? They may experience arthritic pain, joint swelling and tenderness, period pain, sports injuries or muscle pain to mention just a few types.

Did you also know that recent studies have shown tumeric to be as effective as NSAID's in relieving pain?

Ethical Nutrients Pain Relief contains clinically trialled, gut friendly BCM-95 Tumeric. BCM-95 Tumeric has been shown to have absorption enhanced by up to seven times, compared to standard tumeric extract. This bioavailablity technology also ensures the curcumin, a key active ingredient of tumeric, is concentrated and the 200 naturally occurring compunds of tumeric including essential oils and resins, are retained.
The resulting BCM-95 Tumeric contains the full phytochemical spectrum, making it a complete extract with enhanced absorption! This means better, gut-friendly pain relief!

Clinical studies have shown that BCM-95 Tumeric is just as effective as  an NSAID for pain relief. It reduces both joint pain and joint swelling as effectively as NSAID's without the harmful gut side-effects.

For acute pain, such as sports injuries, the recommended dosage is 2 capsules three times a day. For the ongoing management of pain, such as arthritis, the recommended dosage is one capsule twice daily.

For safe, ongoing pain relief for arthritis why not consider adding Ethical Nutrients Hi-Strength Liquid Fish Oil. Just one teaspoon daily of this minty flavoured, deodorised fish oil helps reduce the inflammation associated with your arthritis. It also has the added benefit of helping maintain a healthy LDL:HDL cholesterol ratio and assisting with cognitive function. It helps keep your brain healthy too!

So next time your joints are painful or swollen, try a natural pain relief solution and experience effective relief without the side-effects.

Only 2% of the Metagenome is Human

Have you heard about about the Human Microbiome Project? The total number of microbes living on or in a human being is called their microbiome. Surprisingly enough if we look at all the cells together we are only 10% human!  The genes only 2% are human!
In 2008 the Human Micobiome Project (HMP) was instigated to characterise the microbial communities found at several different sites around the human body, and to analyse the role of these microbes in human health and disease. It was revealed that there is enormous variations of the strain, species and even genus levels of bacteria, both within an individual and between individuals. Everybody's microbione has unique qualities- in fact, it is thought that each person has at least one strain of bacteria specific for themselves.
This bacteria can live in harmony with us helping us process nutrients, degrading xenobiotics, protecting us from other microbes and regulating our homeostasis. However sometimes the wrong bugs get in the wrong places or too many multiple too quickly.
There are two big things we can do. Firstly we can reduce the microbial load. In the Naturopathy clinic we use herbs to do this. This needs to be done carefully to avoid any Herxheimer reaction. We usually use colostrum powder to help here.
Sometimes depending on the bacteria treatment will occur in a wave like method. You'll feel better after 6 to 8 weeks then you may have another episode as the next lot of bacteria flourish however with each episode it is likely to be less intense and shorter duration if you reduce the microbial load each time.

Secondly we can change the terrain. When I say this I mean to change the surrounding tissues. Things that may build up an unfavourable terrain include;
  • refined western diet
  • lack of exercise,
  • lack of sunshine
  • stress
  • inadequate rest
  • excessive hygiene
  • medications
  • toxic exposure

Our Clean With Program is designed to address all this and more.  Book to start now on 9969 4700

Hormonal Profiling With Kyle & Rosemary

Clean Within - It's Time for The Amalgams to Come Out

The concept is simple everyone has a mouth and many years ago it was current practice to use amalgam fillings. If you have them they are very old and possibly leaking. This adds to the bodies toxicity.

The mouth is situated first in the digestive process so it is prudent to consider if that may have any impact on the program you are about to start.
Some things you may consider is;
  • Infection and inflammation of the gums. This is called Periodontal disease.
  • Abscesses under the teeth
  • Silver amalgam fillings
  • Poor Oral Hygiene.

In all these cases either bacteria or heavy metals is being swallowed into the digestive system having an impact lower down in the digestive tract.

Did you know mercury has been implicated as a cofactor in systemic human autoimmunity. Studies showed that mercury exposure increased levels of antinuclear antibodies. Most human mercury exposure comes from mercury vapour outgassing from amalgam fillings, at a rate of 2 to 28 micrograms per facet surface per day, of which about 80% is absorbed, according to the World Health Organisation.

Good nutrition starts with a healthy mouth. Regular dental checks are worth while to eliminate factors that may be contributing to digestive dysbiosis.

A good local referral would be Hugh Fleming Dentistry who is able to assess both your periodontal and dental health and treat as required. Dr Fleming advocates the use of ceramic (non-amalgam) fillings and his team of highly trained dental hygienists attend to the periodontal concerns of many patients. They are located at Level 1, Bridgepoint Shopping Centre – Ph 99608977 ; www.hughflemingdentistry.com.au.

As adults, we know we need to eat foods that are good for us, even if they don't always taste that great. Kids like things that taste great but they don't care if they are good for them or not! As parents, it is often a challenge to find foods that both taste good and are good for our kids. "C Berry Blast" may be just the product you have been searching for!

"SUPERFOODS FOR KIDS" C BERRY BLAST is a great tasting, all natural "SUPER FOOD" specially created for kids.

C Berry Blast is a combination of organic super foods carefully selected by nutritionists  for their high Vitamin C and antioxidant content and their potent phytonutritional properties. The great tangy taste comes from all-natural, Vitamin-C rich foods such as Kakadu Plum and Camu Camu - two of the most potent sources of Vit C! Kids don't care about this - but as a parent YOU DO!
What's more, C Berry Blast contains no added sugar. Instead it is sweetened with organic, anti-oxidant rich berries such as Acai berries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, cranberries, goji berries and more! Yummy yummy!

C Berry Blast is also vegan, yeast free, starch free, gluten free and low GI!! This makes it suitable for almost everyone.

C Berry Blast can be mixed into water, natural fruit juice or made into a smoothie. It can also be sprinkled on yoghurt or cereal or even ice-cream to make a "sometimes " treat more nutritious.

Try C Berry Blast and help keep your kids "SUPER" all through winter!

LOLLIPOP, LOLLIPOP, OOH I LOVE MY LOLLIPOP!

Kids Cough Multipack Ltd Edition 10'sKids Cough Multipack Ltd Edition 10's

We all love lollipops! Especially our kids!

Sometimes it can be difficult to administer medicine to our children when they are unwell. The recent changes to cough and cold medicine recommendations for under 6 years olds, has also meant we have fewer available options to help relieve their symptoms. It is reassuring to know there is still a safe, yet effective product available.

At Cranes Pharmacy we have all natural homeopathic lollipops to help relieve the symptoms of
* cough
* sore throats
* ear-ache
* cold & flu

Simply suck one Kids Cough, Kids Cold or Kids Throat Lozenge at the first signs of cough, cold or sore throat. There is no need to finish the whole lozenge as the therapeutic effect of the homeopathic medicine will be gained in the first few licks or sucks. The recommended dosage is 3 lozenges per day.

Each Kids Cough, Kids Cold or Kids Throat Lozenge contains active homeopathic ingredients.
Homeopathy is a 200 year old system of medicine which treats an illness by administering minute doses of a symptom - thus causing the body to activate its own healing response. The homeopathic remedies in Kids Cough, Kids Cold and Kids Throat are derived from plants or mineral extracts diluted to the desired potency. Because of the highly dilute nature of homeopathic medicines, there are no side effects or interactions with any other conventional medicines.

Each lozenge contains no sugar, no alcohol, no preservatives and is non-drowsy. They come in great tasting flavours such as Orange, Raspberry, Apple & Pine-Lime.

So this winter, we all love our lollipops!

Diabetes Todays' epidemic. How can you avoid it?

Are you overweight?
Is your waist measurement greater than 100cm (for women) or 110cm (for men)?
Are you often making unhealthy food choices?
Are you exercising less often than 30 minutes five times a week?
Do you have high blood pressure or high cholesterol levels?
Are you regularly consuming alcohol?
Do you have a parent or sibling with diabetes?

Type 2 Diabetes is a lifestyle disease and can usually be prevented. Living a healthy lifestyle - being active and eating healthy foods - reduces your risk of developing Type 2 Daibetes.

HOLD THE HAM MAN!

Bacon & eggs for breakfast
Ham sandwich for lunch
Sausages on the barbie
Peperoni & salami on a pizza
Chorizo in your pasta

How many times this week have YOU eaten one of the above?

Ham ,bacon, chorizo, salami, pepperoni, sausages, frankfurters are all processed meats. These meats are all cured with preservatives, such as salt & nitrates or through smoking. Recent studies are suggesting that regular consumption of these foods is linked with bowel cancer and it seems likely that maybe nitrates are the cause.

The World Cancer Research Fund estimates that approximately 10% of bowel cancer can be linked to the consumption of processed meats. Other studies have confirmed that a high consumption of both red and processed meats increases the risk of bowel cancer and heart disease.

Whilst lean red meat is a good source of protein, iron & zinc the same cannot be said for processed meats, which are not very nutritious and often high in saturated fats.

It's so easy for you to improve your health! All you have to do is to replace these processed foods with a variety of more natural choices.

Try a tuna or salmon sandwich for lunch. Avocado and hommus are also great sandwich fillings. Choose chicken, fish or lean red meat for your next barbecue instead of sausages. Add mushrooms & herbs to increase the flavour of your pasta sauces. Have a poached egg on a bed of spinach with a side of tomatoes instead of bacon for your next Sunday breakfast.

Stop and think about the foods you are eating and whenever possible choose a natural food over a processed food. One of the best ways to improve your health is to include more vegetables in your diet and think about the types and amount of meat you are consuming.
The best part is your body will definitely benefit from the healthier food choices you are making!

These herbal remedies work in a gentle yet affective way to help the body slow down, relax and allow the individual to sleep.

A Homeopathic Remedy we find amazing is Bioglan Melatonin. It helps to re-establish normal sleep patterns after a long plane flight and helps combat jet lag. It is also great for shift workers or if you have been keeping irregular sleep hours.
