Couch Surfing in Sydney? Will Santa Know where to look?

Read below.  I'm inspired to do what we can at Cranes Pharmacy to help this Christmas.

Focus on the hidden homeless Tuesday 06 August 2013
More and more young Australians are calling a couch at a mates house home as the frequency of homelessness in across the country continues to grow. The plight of Australia’s homeless will be highlighted this week during Homeless Person’ Week, coordinated by Homelessness Australia. This year’s theme is “The hidden homeless”.
Barnardos Australia works closely with young people in New South Wales to help reduce the risk of them becoming homeless due to an often complex set of personal circumstances. These can include drug and alcohol issues, cross culture conflict and family breakdown.
According to Homelessness Australia, more than 105,000 people in Australia experience homelessness on any given night, and just six per cent of them are sleeping rough. Young people staying temporarily with friends or families, or women and children bunking down with relatives, don’t always identify themselves as homeless.
A Barnardos Australia Program Manager agrees ‘couch surfing’ is increasingly common. “More and more young people are ‘couch surfing’ as a way of life. Kids feel they can’t go home due to volatile relationships and family breakdown. We are actually finding truancy is the first indicator of homelessness as these kids are missing school because they don’t have the resources necessary for school. They can then get involved in drugs and other potentially dangerous behaviour. We want to break the cycle of homelessness that often runs in families.” Through the early intervention “Reconnect” program Barnardos Australia also offers practical and personal support and assistance for youth (12 – 18 years old) and their families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The Reconnect program in Canterbury and Marrickville local government areas is aimed at reconnecting teenagers to their families where possible, by helping to work out relationship breakdowns. Barnardos workers aim to teach young people resilience to cope in difficult situations and how to live together in a family when times are hard. If moving home is not an option Barnardos helps the young person find stable living arrangements while staying connected to their families.
There are currently 105,237 people in Australia who are homeless, 27% of which are under the age of 18.* Barnardos Australia relies on your support to continue this vital work.

How to Look Ten Years Younger Starting From The Inside Out

10 years younger - from the inside out!

Want to look 10 years younger and keep it that way?

What if you could reduce your biological age?

Well now you can, by reducing your biomarkers - the biological 'markers' of aging. The Young Within Program is all about just that!

What would you choose?
Your chronological age may be 45, but you can have the body of a 35 year old or a 55 year old...

How does the program work:
We'll move through each of these topics and you'll have the opportunity to adjust your choices accordingly. We'll record all your ideas so you have all the information you need at your finger tips. And the best part is...each choice you make will start turning back the aging process from the inside out.

This program is in 2 parts
Part one - 5 steps to decrease your body biomarkers

  1. Choose a balanced diet
  2. Learn about the food signatures
  3. Know about what Hara Hachi Bu means to you
  4. Focus on the Essentials: sunshine, water & air
  5. Best of all - move your body
Part two - 5 steps to decrease your mind biomarkers

  1. Create mindfulness
  2. Bind to your tribe
  3. Belong to a group
  4. Form positive connections
  5. Embrace spirituality
You can turn back the clock, feel good and look great just from reaching for the right foods, a few lifestyle changes and looking into your mindset.  Let me show you how with the Young Within Program.

Moods and Foods

Reach for the right foods - feel great!

Foggy brain?
Help to find your way through the fog by dumping sugar from your diet.  Replace it with loads of green things - salads and vegetables e.g. spinach, broccoli, watercress, celery.

Find yourself tired?
It's going to help you to balance out your blood sugars.  Increase the protein you are eating, avoid refined carbohydrates, switch to whole grains and low GI fruit and vegetables. e.g. sweet potato, raw carrots, apples, pears or kiwi fruit

Feeling down?
Look for foods with lots of B vitamins. B vitamins are your 'get up and go' vitamin that nourishes the nervous system. Look for lean meat, seafood, broccoli, spinach & citrus fruits. Check that you are not drinking any soft drinks or cordials and up the filtered water.

One of those stressy weeks?
Grab the walnuts.  Only 9 walnuts or a teaspoon of walnut oil is enough to make a difference.  It could help your body handle stress better.  Other foods to munch on a busy week are flaxseeds, other nuts and cold pressed oils.e.g. olive or sunflower.

Guys...how many times do you wee during the night?

There is hope that you could get a whole nights sleep or at least less interruptions.  There is a herb called Pygeum Africanum that is not well known outside the herbal world.   When the clinical studies where done on this herb there was a moderately large improvement in urologic symptoms compared to placebo.  Nocturia was decreased by 19%, residual urine volume reduced by 24%, while peak urine flow increased by 23%. All of these are good things.
The conclusion from the studies is that overall this herb may improve the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) by modulating bladder contractility, reducing inflammation, inhibiting fibroblast production, decreasing leukotriene production and improving secretory activity of prostate epithelium.
Bioceuticals have cleverly combined Pygeum with Rye Grass and Beta-sitosterols in their new Prostacare tablet.  This is designed to support prostate health and hopefully help you guys have a good nights sleep.

Confidence in Health

Do you know the right decision to make but continuously end up doing the opposite?
Do you run out of time for health?
Do you feel silly even starting on a health plan?
Is this to do with confidence? Confidence with yourself .
Here is a simple trick you can do anywhere to build confidence in your self and your health decisions.

Imagine that you are really tall. And I mean really tall, at least 7 metres tall.  Then visualise yourself being made of solid diamond.  Inhale a nice deep breath and fell your chest expand.  If you are increasing your confidence to deal with indecision over a health event that was bothering you, then imagine how insignificant it is compared to your strength and power. You could swat it away like a fly if you wanted to. The tiny squeaky voice can barely reach your ears and your booming confidence in your health blows it away like a tornado.
Now imagine popping a bright red cape over your shoulders and feel it dragging along the floor behind you.  Take confident strides like a roman emperor and imagine a fanfare of trumpets as you announce your new health strategy.

You can use this strategy anywhere to switch on your confidence when ever you need it and it instantly transforms your demeanor .  Use it to support your health decisions.

Did you know 50% of people revert back to old habits within 3 weeks of finishing a diet? The key to sustainability is learning about how to change your own mindset forever. Imagine making good choices all the time rather than being on a diet or off a diet. To find out more click below
