On the weekend I was talking to one of my customers, she was telling me that her teenage son had just died from brain cancer. It made me remember my best fried who died from an untreatable rapidly growing cancer when we were in our 20's. It doesn't end there and it's all very sad.
However as I think about it the sadness changes to courage. Courage to create a larger platform for health. A platform for health, to SHOUT about health so that Australians begin to listen.
When you look at the Australian statistics we are not very disease proof. We may live a long time but we are not very well. In a recent study 75% of participants over 40 said that they lived with a chronic disease. One in two blokes (one in three women) will live with cancer in their lifetime. And as for fleshiness, we are drowning in it with 66% of Australians classified as obese.
We are at a stage where we can't afford to be complacent. Health needs to be the first thing we think about when we wake up and the last consideration before bed. We live a very different life from the one our bodies were adapted for and this needs to be factored in. Every day we need to consider what we put into our bodies, consider what we do with our bodies and consider how we choose to think.
Maybe this is the key. Where to start? We may need to change our minds. Change our minds and make better choices so that the chemical soup that we live in does not effect our bodies in such a big way. This is going to take courage as you will be swimming against the current. You may need to make decisions that may not be considered "normal". But we already know that our "normal" is not working. We are living with more disease than ever before.
What are my top 10 courageous decisions?
- Nature, find it somewhere every day, hug the trees and breathe the air, relax in the feeling
- Water, lots of it, fresh and as pure as you can get
- Whole foods, vegetables and fruit and more vegetables. Forget about anything in a packet.
- Sunlight, 15 minutes per day to 70% of your body
- Exercise and movement, minimum 1/2 hour each day.
- Find what gives you pleasure and happiness and spend some time each day doing it.
- Throw away the garbage, do a detox, get rid of toxic relationships, shed the baggage.
- Purpose. Believe in something, find a dream and chase it to the end of the rainbow
- Community. Put back for the greater good, feel the love in the air.
- Family. Make peace and find a way to work together, creating a health platform for you all to stand on side by side.
