Are your lungs behaving poorly? Sinusitis?

For centuries, Eastern Europeans have sat in natural salt caves to help relieve respiratory, circulatory and skin ailments and stress.

Salt Therapy, like that provided at Salt Caves, is a form of inhalation therapy that is used to provide a natural
allergy treatment to clear the airways of mucus build up and reduce triggered by allergies to dust, pollen or pollution. The inhaled microscopic salt aerosol draws the mucus and fluid build up out of the nasal passage, reducing the swelling and pain. The minerals within salt, namely magnesium and potassium and known to help with inflammation and assist with breaking down mucus build up. Salt therapy will also assist in protecting you against further sinus infections as it kills harmful bacteria in the airways and boosts your immune system.

Now instead of heading off to Europe to find a salt cave you can do it in your own home with a Salt Air Pod.  This is an Ultrasonic Salinizer. Secret Squirrel ™ Salt Air Pod is an ultrasonic particle dispenser that uses ultrasonic frequency vibration technology to transform a saline solution into a salt aerosol for the indoor air. The device is not a humidifier, as it is placing an insignificant amount of humidity into your room. It is a unique product! Secret Squirrel™ Salt Air Pod comes with an instruction manual and a supply of pharmaceutical grade natural Himalayan rock salt for the saline solution. Easy to use - just plug in 100% natural and completely safe 12 month Warranty - complies with all Australian standards.

18 year old with a Flair up of Eczema

What would I do?
I would advise a 4 prong approach.  Let's consider nutrition, mindset, supplements
and topical applications.
Nutrition.  I like to take out sugar, dairy, wheat and any junk foods.  This may be a big ask for a teenager but it does go a long way with getting the inflammation under control.  Replace with loads of vegetables, some fruit and a good sized protein at each meal. Lots of essential fatty acids help too.  This includes, fish, nuts, olive oil and eggs.  Add a tablespoon flaxseed per day.  The next step after this is to consider allergy testing.
Mindset. Nobody said being a teenager is easy and there are a lot of things that create stress.  This needs to be balanced with a regular d-stress program.  A half an hour a day doing something relaxing (not TV or screens).  Try walking, reading, meditating or listening to music.
Supplements. Flair ups with eczema have a lot to do with what is happening in the gut walls so I'd always start with a good probiotic.  Inner Health have a product called Eczema Relief which I recommend.  Bioceuticals Ultra Clean Fish oil capsules will help reduce the inflammation.
Topical.  Stop all skin cleansers, soaps and any other skin applications.  Have not too hot showers.  Use MooGOO wash followed by MooGoo eczema cream.  On the really bad bits use cortisone creams for a few days to get it under control then go back to MooGoo.  If you cannot find MooGoo, my second favorite is Trixera in the french Avene range.

Improving Mental Performance in kids with ADHD

Phosphatidylserine (PS) has been shown to significantly improve Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) symptoms, short term memory and cognitive function in young children suffering from ADHD.  This is the conclusion of a 2013 clinical trial.
In the study, 36 children aged 4 to 14 with diagnosed ADHD completed the randomized, double bind, placebo controlled clinical trial.  Children were supplemented with 200mg PS or placebo each day for two months.  ADHD symptoms were the primary outcome measure of the trial.  No significant changes were found in the placebo group but those recieving PS showed an impressive 37% decrease in their ADHD score.  Children in the PS group showed improved classroom behaviour and social skills.
It sure makes sense to combine this treatment with a comprehensive treatment plan for improving mental performance and quality of life for kids with ADHD.  I remember being told at a seminar if we spend time ensuring the kids are healthy and balanced we'll run out of adult customers.  I wonder if that is true? If you have any questions ask Rosemary Manners.

Autoimmune Disease and Microbes.

When we say WE we really mean WE.  Us and our microbes. Recent genetic screening studies have astounded us by identifying that only around 10% of cells in our body are actually human.  The rest of these cells make up the human microbione; that is the sum of bacteria, fungi and parasites living on us and inside us.
We have co-evolved with microbes and we are dependent on their presence to regulate our immune system, protect our skin, digest our food, produce nutrients and to help in the metabolism of toxins. So we do need the microbes however it causes havoc when they get out of balance or in the wrong place.
Science has taken a turn and research is looking into the connection between your microbial load and autoimmune diseases.  The results are extremely interesting.  It has been demonstrated by both research studies and clinicians in the field that it is possible to generate improvement in autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and sarcoidosis using multiple antibiotic therapy.  As to be expected, such aggressive treatment results in a high level of side effects.  But it gives as a great clue.
In the natural world we can use a combination of Berberine, which inhibits the protein and DNA synthesis within microbes, and essential oils of oregano, clove and thyme to attack the cell walls of bacteria.  There are also the mushrooms for viral infections.  Cordyceps, Coriolus and Reishi have been widely studied and proven to help in the resolution of chronic or reoccurring viral infections.  In our clinic these and a few other supplements aimed at addressing infection have shown dramatic improvements in autoimmune conditions.
Another tactic is to completely reset your micobione with my Clean Within Program.  This Integrated Detoxification Program is a first point of call for those in whom chronic infection is based in the gut.  It addresses bacterial overgrowth while also dealing with consequences and associated conditions, such as leaky gut, digestive incompetency, poor detoxification and hepatic dysfunction.

Do You Push Through Life or Travel with Ease

Do you have a tendency to push up against life, establishing new roads with a heavy steadiness? Or maybe you give up easily, choose the path of ease or the line of least resistance ? These concepts are known in Yoga as Sthira and Sukha. Steadiness vs Ease.  The idea is to balance these two tendencies.  Choose the happy balance in the middle.
Sometimes we tend to get too close to one or the other.  In yoga terms this is called Dukha.  Dukha translates as a restricted place and is believed to be behind all suffering.  Where are you on this scale?  Are you more Sthira or Sukha?

Five Ways to improve your  Balance between Sthira and Sukha include:

  1. Practice  this concept on your yoga mat at classes at www.adoreyoga.com.au
  2. Investigate your eating pattern and food choices with leading nutritionalist Rosemary Manners
  3. Check out Happiness Within Program at www.rosemarymanners.com.au
  4. Consider the Adore Yoga Daintree Yoga Retreat in September
  5. Incorporate  Mindfulness into your day every day

Have You Had a Cold for Too Long?

I grew up with the understanding that a cold lasted 3 days.  On the fourth day it should be just mild symtoms and after a week you were symptom free. Why is it that I see many clients with moderate symptoms after a week? Not sick enough to stay in bed but definitely not feeling fully recovered.

On average adults have between 2 to 4 colds per year. If your cold is lasting weeks rather than days that is a lot of time wasted not feeling great and not performing at your best. There are many ways you can get on top of your cold  and flu symptoms & recover faster.

One of my favourite products is Ethical Nutrients Immune Defence which contains a clinically studied 6g dose of Andrographis in each dose.  Andrographis reduces the duration and severity of your cold and flu. Immune Defence helps relieve your cold symptoms as well as supporting your immune system. This means you not only recover more quickly but you are far less likely to catch another cold!! Immune Defence helps you stay well during cold and flu season.

Clinical studies have also shown that high dose Vitamin C  also helps reduce the severity and duration of cold and flu symptoms. At Cranes we have some great tasting, readily absorbed Vitamin C products. Try  Bioceuticals Ultra Potent-C Effervescent High Dose Vitamin C powder - it tastes so great even the kids will be asking for more!

Another clinically proven treatment for cold and flu symptoms is - believe it or not - chicken soup! Try Rosemary's delicious Immune Booster Soup recipe containing chicken & shiitake mushrooms - yummy!! And while you are in the kitchen, try mixing up some of Rosemary's Flu-Fighter Tea. Made with warming ginger, honey, lemon, garlic and cinnamon, you will feel your symptoms improve with each sip.

So this winter, tackle your cold symptoms with our proven remedies and feel better within days not weeks!
