Why
is liver health important?
The
liver is the largest internal organ and its optimum functioning is
vital to good health and proper detoxification. The liver functions
to detoxify blood, regulate cholesterol, synthesise blood proteins,
produce bile and store glycogen (for energy use). The liver helps to
break down drugs, alcohol and other toxins. It also produces bile,
which removes waste products and helps process fats. If the liver
malfunctions it can have a range of negative implications on the body
and overall health.
I
like to think of the liver as a dusty old attic that needs to be
cleansed every now and again. Just like the attic, if you go in with
too much gusto the dust sprays up into your face (you may get a
little nausea or a skin rash). Take it gently and the results will be
a nice clean attic (liver).
